Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk
Twenty-eight chapter members participated in the annual
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Canton, OH. The event included 208
teams and over 1,300 participants who raised over $100,000. The chapter’s Pink
Freud team walked the total 6.9 miles, raised $290, and some were even daring
enough to go up the McKinley Memorial Monument stairs!
How long did it take your chapter to plan
This was the
second year our team participated in the walk, so there was less preparation
needed. We began recruiting members approximately one month prior to the walk.
Did your chapter enjoy this project?
This was a
wonderful opportunity to participate in a community event, spread the word
about Psi Chi and Walsh University, and donate money to an extremely worthy
cause. Thankfully, the weather was much nicer this year—cold, but sunny. The
energy at the walk was fantastic!
Do you think your chapter will want to do
like this in the future?
Yes, I think
this event was eye-opening for the Psi Chi members and that they will be very
willing to participate in community events like this in the future.
If you were planning the event again, what
would you do differently?
Next year we
hope to open it up to the entire university rather than just the psychology
majors. We’d also like to set up a table to collect additional donations.
