Faculty

Without the faculty members who work directly with the chapters, Psi Chi would not exist. Faculty advisors keep the organization alive and to a large extent, determine the type of experience members have with the organization.

Only full-time faculty members, holding a doctoral degree in psychology, are eligible to serve as Psi Chi chapter faculty advisors. Faculty advisors are responsible for the day-to-day operation of the chapters. They either handle or set up systems for:

  • recruiting new members
  • organizing activities
  • encouraging members to participate in conventions, submit research papers for publication, and to take advantage of the many benefits of membership.

There are several reasons to be an active Psi Chi faculty advisor:

Why be a
faculty advisor?

Lindsey Root Luna, PhD
Faculty Advisor
Hope College (MI)

"As a faculty member, I have worked with students and routinely encouraged them to submit their work to Psi Chi due to the myriad of opportunities. They have won regional research awards, and one has received a summer grant to support his senior thesis project. I received support as his faculty mentor as well."

Jessica Boyette-Davis, PhD
St. Edward's University (TX)
2017 Faculty Advisor Regional Travel Grant Winner

"Convention experiences
ignited an interest in science
and ultimately fueled my desire
to seek a PhD; the thought that
I might be contributing to that love of scientific interest in others is incredibly rewarding. I am very thankful to Psi Chi for providing me with the funds to engage in an experience that I would not have otherwise been able to participate in."

Jenny Hughes
Faculty Advisor

Agnes Scott College

"I like being a faculty advisor because I get to know the top students in our psychology department. I often ask them to work in my research lab and I offer them internships that I find out about. They are wonderful students to work with.”
