Southwest Region Vice President Bio

Shawn R. Charlton, PhD
University of Central Arkansas

Originally, from St. Anthony, Idaho, I have lived in Logan, Utah—where I earned my bachelors in psychology from Utah State University (2001); Santiago, Chile—where I learned just how fascinating and complex human behavior can be; San Diego, California—where I completed my masters (2003) and PhD (2006) in experimental psychology at the University of California, San Diego; and Conway, Arkansas—where I work at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) as associate professor of psychology, director of Undergraduate Programs in Psychology, and sponsor for the UCA chapter of Psi Chi. I have been at UCA and served as the faculty sponsor for our chapter of Psi Chi since 2007.

I strongly believe undergraduates must be directly involved in scientific research. Undergraduates serve a major role in my laboratory where we study the effect of time on decision-making. My students actively seek Psi Chi grants/awards, present at regional and national conferences, and write our results for publication.

Since 2007, I have served Psi Chi at the local, regional, and national level. Our UCA chapter has received 8 consecutive Model Chapter awards, a Regional Chapter Award, the Ruth Hubbard Cousins National Award, and the Kay Wilson Officer Team Leadership Award (all in the last 5 years). I recently served two terms on the Southwestern Regional Steering Committee and currently serve on the Faculty Advisor Support and Resources Committee. I am an active reviewer for Psi Chi grants and awards as well as for the Psi Chi Journal of Psychological Research.
