Faculty Advisor Leadership Training Sessions January 20 and July 29, 2011

The national Mortar Board honor society has created LEAD: Leadership Excellence and Advisor Development for advisors of all experience levels. Two day-long sessions are scheduled for January 20, 2011 in St. Petersburg, FL, and July 29, 2011 in Chicago, IL. LEAD addresses many of the issues that all societies’ advisors face. It is not just Mortar Board-specific. The program’s faculty is experienced professionals who have served as advisors to many student organizations and have quantifiable expertise to share during this day-long interactive workshop. Participants will learn how to:

  •  effectively advise a collegiate chapter's leadership team;
  • cultivate relationships among a diverse group of students;
  • enhance students’ co-curricular education through many opportunities for teaching and interacting outside of the classroom;
  • help chapter leaders apply their existing skills to the one-of-a-kind leadership situations that they face;
  • enhance their own interpersonal assets to work best with millennial students;
  • create and maintain a strong advisor team to help their chapters and balance their workloads; and
  • Apply best practices in student organization advisement like fundraising, member motivation, conflict resolution, and risk management. Details and a registration form are available at www.mortarboard.org/LEAD.

Apply to Co-host the fall 2011 Synergy Conference!!!

Psi Chi and Psi Beta are seeking 1-2 chapters from each organization to co-host the 6th Annual Synergy Conference in fall 2011. The Synergy conference is intended to promote collaboration between the sister organizations of Psi Chi and Psi Beta. Such collaboration could be especially beneficial to both chapters in locations where the Psi Beta members frequently transfer to nearby universities having a Psi Chi chapter.

The 2010 theme of the Synergy Conference held at Community College of Denver was the psychology of happiness Link. The host chapters may choose the theme for the 2011 conference. Interested Psi Beta chapters should contact a nearby Psi Chi chapter; then an officer from one of the chapters needs to complete and submit the form located at survey by February 18, 2011. Psi Chi and Psi Beta support the conference with $1000 each. The host chapters may use the $2000 for expenditures such as an honorarium for the keynote speaker, renting conference space, printing programs, etc. Host chapters may seek further financial support by applying for a Psi Beta/Psi Chi collaboration grant of $500. Here is a link for more information on the collaboration grant.
