  1. Tips for Online Entry of New Chapter Members
  2. Save time and a little postage: Now that all new inductees are entered on the Psi Chi website by the chapter administrator, it is no longer necessary to submit the top portion of the registration card to the Central Office. There is a button on the bottom of each inductee’s entry record that states “Accepted Psi Chi’s Constitution.” Please double check that each inductee signed the bottom half of the registration card, then click on that button.

Double-check your work: Names appear on new member materials exactly the way you enter them! Remember to put a period after the middle initial if the full middle name is not provided and check the spelling before clicking “Submit Member.” Once the member is submitted, the only way to make corrections is to delete the entire record and start over or place a request through the Central Office. Reprinting the member certificate and card costs your chapter $10 if it was your mistake!

  3. NSF-Funded Grant Opportunity for Undergraduate Students
  4. The site www.goCognitive.net is a web project funded by the National Science Foundation that provides free access to educational tools in cognitive neuroscience. The website hosts interviews with researchers in cognitive neuroscience as part of its video archive. In addition to interviews, a number of interactive demonstrations are available through goCognitive.net.

The goal of this grant program is to enable undergraduate students enrolled at an institution of higher learning in the United States to propose and conduct an interview with a prominent researcher in a central domain of cognitive neuroscience / cognitive psychology. The interview will be taped and published through the goCognitive web site. Successful applicants will receive a travel grant up to $800, an additional personal $300 stipend, and technical assistance during the interview process. GoCognitive will be responsible for the taping, editing, and publication of the interview (see www.goCognitive.net for some examples).

Applicants are asked to submit a short CV (max 2 pages) and an interview proposal for consideration. The interview proposal needs to identify a notable researcher and summarize the relevance of the proposed interview to the goCognitive project (max 1 page) together with a proposed interview script outlining the topics that will be discussed (max 3 pages). In addition, applicants must include a letter of support from a faculty member at their home institution.

Deadline for the first round of proposals is June 1, 2011. Proposals will be reviewed in the order they are received until the maximum amount of grants has been awarded. Up to 6 grants will be awarded in the first round of proposals.

For a copy of the full grant announcement or questions about this grant program, please contact Dr. Steffen Werner at swerner@uidaho.edu. Please use “GoCogInt-001 question” in the subject header of your email.

  5. Psi Chi/STP Assessment Resource Grant
  6. The purpose of this grant is to further the goals of Psi Chi and the Society for Teaching Psychology (STP) by supporting projects to develop assessment tests/instruments/processes demonstrating student acquisition of goals 2, 4, and/or 5 of the APA Guidelines for the Undergraduate Psychology Major (see http://www.apa.org/ed/psymajor_guideline.pdf for descriptions of these goals). Up to 3 grants of $2000 each may be awarded each year. Applicants must be psychology faculty and members of Psi Chi and STP. The submission deadline is June 1, 2011 for projects to be conducted during the grant period (from July 31, 2011 to June 1, 2012). Go to http://www.psichi.org/pdf/stp.pdf for details.
