On Saturday, March 31, 2007, about 170 visitors, including students, faculty, and community psychologists, convened on the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) campus for the Regional Psychology Research Conference.
Conference participants represented 18 institutions of learning, including Oklahoma State University, University of Utah, University of Texas-Arlington, Texas A & M University, and the University of North Texas.
The conference was organized by OLLU's psychology department led by Kathryn B. Anderson, PhD, interim chair and professor of psychology. The event served to showcase the research conducted by undergraduate and graduate psychology students and faculty, provide the students with opportunities to present their work, and allow students to interact with graduate recruiters from area graduate programs.
The conference was funded in part by a
Undergraduate Research Conference Grant from Psi Chi. Psi Chi President Dr. John Davis of Texas State University–San Marcos presented the keynote address, "The Changing Cultural Context of Psychology Graduate Education: Why it Matters." Dr. Teresita Aguilar, dean of OLLU's School of Professional Studies, attended the conference and welcomed the conference participants. OLLU faculty members Monte Bobele, PhD, professor of psychology; John Gomez, PhD, associate professor of psychology; and Regina Cusack, PhD, associate professor of psychology led conference workshops. The OLLU Psychology Graduate Student Association served as a facilitator for "Graduate Student Sound Off: Strategies for Coping During Graduate School." OLLU student Daphny Leah Dominguez Tobias presented her research, "Unspoken Bonds: A Case Study of an Emergency Response Worker."
The conference ended with a tour of the Community Counseling Service training clinic at 590 N. General McMullen. Bernadette Solorzano, PsyD, OLLU assistant professor of psychology, and OLLU student Angela Rood led the tour.
