Scott VanderStoep, PhD, graduated from Hope College (1987), received an M.A. from the University of Illinois (Social Psychology, 1989) and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan (Education and Psychology, 1992). From 1993­ to 1994 he taught at his undergraduate alma mater as a visiting professor. From 1994 to ­1996 he taught at Northwestern College (Iowa). While there, he initiated their Psi Chi chapter and served as faculty advisor. From 1996 to ­1999 he taught at Calvin College (Michigan). At Calvin, he again helped begin their Psi Chi chapter and served as faculty co-advisor. In 1999, he returned to Hope College to teach in the psychology department and to direct Hope¹s social research center. He currently serves as Psi Chi advisor for the same chapter that inducted him as an undergraduate. In his nine years of college teaching, he haa taught introductory, developmental, social, cognitive, I/O, research lab, psychology of religion, and advanced statistics.

     Dr. VanderStoep currently teaches Developmental Psychology, Advanced Data Analysis, and Psychology and Religion. His appointment is half-time in Hope’s Psychology Department and half-time directing the social research center. He has gathered lots of good stories over the years for Developmental Psychology class from his nine-year-old daughter and five-year-old twins. In his spare time he enjoys pitching on a fast-pitch softball team in the summer and officiating basketball in the winter.
