Psi Chi Usage Policy: Contacting Psi Chi Chapters, Label Lists
As the proliferation of spam and unsolicited emails continues, Psi Chi email addresses have proven not to be immune to such invasion. In fact, several solicitations (that were not approved by Psi Chi) directed at Psi Chi chapters and members have been forwarded to the National Office's attention.
Psi Chi has usage guidelines regarding the use of chapter contact information found on the Psi Chi website, and also has a policy regarding contacting Psi Chi chapters about third-party offers (such as graduate school program information). For Psi Chi's privacy policy concerning membership information, please read that privacy policy here.
CONTACTING PSI CHI CHAPTERS: USAGE POLICY In short, contact information for Psi Chi chapters is provided solely for the purpose of aiding communication between chapters and members of Psi Chi. Use of this contact information for unsolicited purposes (without the authorization of the Psi Chi National Office) is strictly prohibited.
For instance, if a Psi Chi chapter wants to coordinate activities or service projects with another Psi Chi chapter in its local area, this would be a valid reason to look up and use a Psi Chi chapter's contact information. Another valid use would be a member of Psi Chi wanting to contact her or his chapter or chapter faculty advisor.
However, any person wanting to contact a Psi Chi chapter for purposes such as (but not limited to) advertising, recommendations (books, speakers, guides, reference materials), research participation, or other third-party solicitations without Psi Chi's approval is strictly prohibited.
Psi Chi, as an organization and as voted on by the Psi Chi National Council, cannot affiliate, endorse, show preference for, advertise, recommend, or otherwise be connected with one person's (or one organization's) services, materials or surveys due to Psi Chi's being a nonprofit organization for the entire field of psychology.
Exceptions include graduate school programs in psychology (as voted on by the National Council) to whom the National Office sells mailing label lists and persons directly involved in Psi Chi research (with prior approval from the National Council or National Office). For more on label lists, read on below.
MAILING LABEL LIST POLICY The way the National Council has chosen to allow graduate psychology school programs wanting to publicize themselves to our members is to sell mailing lists of Psi Chi chapters at $0.20 a label (there are approximately 1,050 chapters). Programs may buy all 1,050 labels or may purchase a smaller subset (e.g., based on state or region). Psi Chi individual members' addresses are not for sale.
If you are interested in purchasing such a list of chapter labels for mailing, please follow this procedure:
1. Please send to the National Office one copy of all materials you wish to mail to our chapters and a cover letter stating you would like to purchase a labels list.
a. In your cover letter, please state how you would like the first line of the labels to be addressed: "FOR PSI CHI CHAPTER" or "TO PSI CHI CHAPTER OFFICERS." Also, please specify how you would like the labels to be sorted: School Name, ZIP Code, or State (or any combination of the three). The default sorting method is by School Name.
b. Mail to: Label List Requests, Psi Chi National Office, PO Box 709, Chattanooga, TN 37401-0709.
2. If your materials are approved, Psi Chi would then mail you the 1,050 (or so) labels with an invoice. Once you receive the invoice, cut a check or money order for the amount on the invoice and mail your payment (with the invoice) back to us here at the Psi Chi National Office.
3. Qualifications.
a. Psi Chi reserves the right to review all materials and to reject orders that do not meet Psi Chi standards.
b. Mailing labels are sold for one-time use only by the requestor. They are not to be reproduced, reused, nor resold to another user.
c. Mailing labels are not returnable--once an order for mailing labels has been placed, no cancellations/refunds will be granted.
d. Labels are distributed on pressure sensitive (gummed) labels, and are not offered by e-mail or any other electronic means of transfer.
