Psi Chi Awards & Grants for Faculty Advisors

Denmark Faculty Advisor Award | Dec 1

The Psi Chi/Florence L. Denmark National Faculty Advisor Award is presented annually to the one Psi Chi faculty advisor who best achieves Psi Chi's purpose. The award includes (1) travel expenses to attend the Psi Chi/ APA National Convention to receive the award and (2) an engraved plaque. The award is intended to recognize Psi Chi faculty advisors for their outstanding service to the chapter and to Psi Chi.

Faculty Advisor Leadership Training Grants

Faculty Advisor Research Grants | June 1

All current faculty advisors and coadvisors who have served an active Psi Chi chapter for at least one year are eligible to apply for these faculty advisor research grants. The purpose of this program is to provide funds for advisors to defray the direct costs of conducting a research project (no stipends included). Two grants will be awarded annually within each of Psi Chi's six regions, for a total of 12 grants. The maximum amount of each grant will be $2,000.

Hunt Research Grants | Oct 1

All Psi Chi student and faculty members are eligible to apply for a Thelma Hunt Research Grant. Up to two grants of up to $3,000 each are presented annually to enable members to complete empirical research that addresses a question directly related to Psi Chi. Unlike other Psi Chi award/grant programs, the Hunt Grants focus on research directly related to the mission of Psi Chi.

Mamie Phipps Clark Research Grant | Nov 1 & Feb 1 

All Psi Chi members (faculty, graduate and undergraduate students) are eligible for the Mamie Phipps Clark Research Grant. Each grant offers up to $1,500 to defray the costs of conducting a research project focusing on ethnic minorities. Total funding available is $10,000 per year: $5,000 for the November deadline and $5,000 for the February deadline.

Regional Faculty Advisor Awards | Dec 1

This award is presented annually to one Psi Chi faculty advisor from each region who best achieves Psi Chi's purpose. The award is to recognize and reward actively involved chapter advisors. The winning faculty advisor from each region will receive $500.

STP Assessment Resource Grant | June 1

The purpose of this grant is to further the goals of Psi Chi and the Society for the Teaching of Psychology (STP—Division Two of the American Psychological Association) by supporting projects to develop assessment tests/instruments/processes to demonstrate student acquisition of goals 2, 4, and 5 of the APA Guidelines for the Undergraduate Psychology Major (see http://www.apa.org/ed/psymajor_guideline.pdf for descriptions of these goals). Acceptable resources developed through this grant will be distributed by STP. Grantees also are encouraged to present their results at local and national conferences.
Up to 3 grants of $2000 each can be awarded each year. [Of the $6000 needed annually, Psi Chi will provide $3000 and STP will provide $3000.] Proposals are reviewed by a 5-member committee jointly appointed by the Presidents of Psi Chi and STP.
