Society Service Award
A Psi Chi Society Service Award is available for individual chapters to award to worthy chapter members. The purpose of the award is to give recognition within the individual chapter to a member who has contributed in an exceptional way to meeting successfully the local chapter's goals and the national aims of Psi Chi. Each chapter is entitled to confer one such award annually to a person completing his or her work in the department that year. Presumably this award will be granted at graduation exercises or at such time as is defined by the institution for awarding honors.
To receive the award, the individual must be selected by vote of the chapter, subject to the approval of the faculty advisor. The request for such a certificate should be received by the Central Office at least three (3) weeks in advance of the time the award is to be made and should be accompanied by a check or money order in the amount of $10 to cover costs of shipping and printing. In exceptional cases a very large chapter may petition the Psi Chi Executive Officer for permission to grant a second award in a given year. Such petition, with complete explanation, should be received at least three (3) weeks in advance of the anticipated time for presenting the award.
It is not anticipated that each chapter will automatically select a candidate each year. Rather it is hoped that the Psi Chi Society Service Award will be reserved for those occasions in which a particular person may truly be recognized as having done outstanding work in contributing to the progress of Psi Chi in a given chapter. It is not assumed either that this necessarily implies recognition for outstanding grade achievement, but that consideration will be made of the extent to which the person has promoted, encouraged, and developed the functioning of the local chapter as an active, significant departmental and campus organization.
The certificate is suitable for framing. It is hoped it will come to signify a particular honor to its recipients.
