Letter of Nomination: Carla J. Reyes, PhD
Utah State University
I am writing to you to nominate Carla J. Reyes, PhD, for the Regional Faculty Advisor Award. She has served as the advisor for the Utah State University Chapter of Psi Chi for three years. Throughout that time, she has provided Psi Chi with leadership, service, and direction in every aspect of its functioning.
Dr. Reyes began serving as Psi Chi’s advisor in October 1996. Dr. Reyes was able to step in as advisor and provide the organization with structure, balance, and support. She brings energy and enthusiasm to our meetings and our activities. When students fall short on their commitments, Dr. Reyes is there to fill the voids. Currently, this chapter is thriving, and our membership is increasing steadily.
Dr. Reyes has committed her resources and her time to helping Psi Chi’s members fulfill their academic potential. She goes beyond the call of duty, often giving extra time and services to the students by extending herself with student projects and other activities. She has demonstrated a conviction to the academic and professional success of the members of this chapter, and has dedicated her knowledge, skills, and abilities to leading our members in pursuing their interests in the field of psychology. She has acted as a mentor to the members of this chapter, and has offered her expertise to those wishing to apply to graduate school and to those who will be entering the job market after graduation. She has been willing to meet individually with students to give them her personal attention, and perhaps most importantly, she is willing to provide her students with the emotional support they need to be successful students. In every way, Dr. Reyes has been a mentor in the finest sense of the word.
Additionally, Dr. Reyes has provided leadership in helping Psi Chi’s members acquire and develop excellent research skills. She has helped Psi Chi’s members gain access into the professional world by mentoring them through research projects, culminating in presentations at regional conferences. Her knowledge and expertise in the research arena have proved invaluable to the success of the members of this chapter.
To summarize, Dr. Reyes is an excellent candidate for your award. I and the rest of the Psi Chi Executive Council at Utah State University recommend her without hesitation. She is largely responsible for the success of this chapter. Your award would facilitate her efforts to lead and support Psi Chi’s members in pursuing academic and professional excellence.
