Undergraduate Research Grant 1997-1998 Winners

Ten winners were announced as recipients of the first Psi Chi Undergraduate Research Grants program. The competition, begun in the 1997-1998 school year, provides funds for Psi Chi members to defray the cost of conducting a research project. The winners, their schools and research advisors, the amount of the grants, as well as the titles of their projects are listed below. The amount of the grants was determined according to the estimated expenses submitted by the proposers.

Heidi Eyre, Utah State University (research advisor: Dr. Tamara J. Ferguson), received a $600 grant for "A Multitrait-Multimethod Analysis of Self- and Other- Reports of Guilt and Shame."

Aimee Knupsky, Muskingum College (research advisor: Dr. Darlene DeMarie-Dreblow), received a $750 grant for "When a Rose Doesn't Smell as Sweet: Priming in the Production and Comprehension Lexicons."

Betsy A. Schickedantz, Otterbein College (research advisor: Dr. Cynthia Laurie Rose), received a $575 grant for "Effects of Event Rate and Signal Probability on Vigilance in Children with ADHD."

Jennifer Kay Stone, The University of Massachusetts, Amherst (research advisor: Sally Powers), received a $180 grant for "Humor as a Moderator of the Effects of Trauma."

Jennifer Phillips, Kutztown University (research advisor: Dr. Anita Meehan), received a $600 grant for "The Effects of Age on Implicit Memory."

Ana Yancy Villa, Christian Brothers University (research advisor: Dr. Sandra D. Nicks), received a $485 grant for "The Relationship Between Self-Mutilation, Body Image, and Eating Disorders."

Rebekah L. Wolf, Otterbein College (research advisor: Dr. Michele Acker), received a $475 grant for "The Effects of Mental Workload of the Computing and Non-Computing Components of Work on Overall Job Satisfaction."

Vivian Wong, Pepperdine University, Malibu (research advisor: Dr. Cindy Miller-Perrin), received a $369 grant for "The Relationship Between Parent Behavior and Self-Esteem in Preschool Children."

Heather A. Yates, North Carolina A & T State Univ (research advisor: Dr. Anthony R. Perry), received a $750 grant for "Effects of Personality, Ethnicity, and Gender on Attitudes Toward and Incidents of Domestic Violence."

Jennifer Zellner, Saint Louis University (research advisor: Dr. Judith Gobbons), received a $615 grant for "Effects of a Bilingual Questionnaire on Hispanic and Non-Hispanic Response Style Tendencies."
