PSI CHI: The International Honor Society in Psychology

The International Honor Society in Psychology

The Psi Chi National Office receives many questions regarding transfer students and the membership requirements for transfer students...

...from other institutions (such as two-year and four-year institutions).
...who were inducted as Psi Chi members at another chapter of Psi Chi.
...who are Psi Beta members (but are now enrolled at a school with a Psi Chi chapter).

All students transferring into your school must meet your chapter's membership requirements, unless they are transferring their membership from another Psi Chi chapter. Members of Psi Chi who are transferring their membership may transfer their membership to your chapter at no cost, but should contact the Psi Chi faculty advisor, complete a Transfer of Membership form, and have the advisor sign and forward the transfer form to the Psi Chi Central Office. If the member wants a new certificate and card, there is an $13.50 fee.

Membership in Psi Chi is not based on membership in any other organization. All students, regardless of membership in any other honor societies, must qualify and join Psi Chi like all other students must do. Psi Beta students also must qualify and join Psi Chi just as any other student must do.

In order to qualify for Psi Chi, all students must complete at least one semester at your university so that they will have a class rank in the upper 35% and establish a GPA at your school. Since schools vary on their transfer policies concerning transfer of grades and hours, Psi Chi accepts the official rank on file at your school, which is provided by your school's registrar.

For undergraduate transfer students who are not already members of Psi Chi, such persons must meet the basic membership requirements of your Psi Chi chapter and complete 9 semester hours or 14 quarter hours of psychology courses at the new institution.

All students joining Psi Chi are required to pay the lifetime Psi Chi membership fee of $45 only once. Psi Chi charges no other fee or dues to members; however, chapters may charge dues in addition to the membership of $45 fee for chapter operations.
