Measuring the Effectiveness of DARE Programs. Melissa Duchene, Jessica Roulliard, Maria Guzman, Kendra Homan, and Tiffany Bauerly, Briar Cliff University (IA) - Board II-001

The present study assessed the effectiveness of a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Lock-In. Results indicated that participants of the lock-in had fun, knew their DARE officers' names and wanted to participate in additional activities. Future research will examine other DARE program aspects and the likelihood of success.

Relationships Between Life Satisfaction, Self Confidence, and Body Image in College Women. Jacklyn M. Ratliff & Jennifer Perry, Baldwin-Wallace College (OH), and Kristen Harger, Marsha Berry, & April Williams, Oklahoma State University - Board II-002

This study examined eating behaviors and attitudes, body image dissatisfaction, self-esteem, life satisfaction, and social acceptance in college women. Participants completed several questionnaires on the above variables. It was found that self-esteem, life satisfaction, appearance, self worth, and eating disordered behaviors and attitudes significantly predicted body image dissatisfaction.

What Does Dysfunction Mean? Ethnic Differences in Family Dysfunction and Risk Behavior. Catherine A. Bower and Richard B. Cano, Texas State University-San Marcos - Board II-003

Research shows risk behavior highly correlated with family dysfunction; however, risk behavior among varying ethnicities is largely inconclusive. This study indicates enmeshment, overprotectiveness, triangulation, conflict resolution absence, and rigidity may not hold same dysfunctional values across cultures, suggesting externalizing behaviors possibly due to acculturation, while internal values vary across ethnicities.
