Review & Pictures: Psi Chi at '06 NEPA

Conference: Psi Chi/NEPA Regional Convention Program (2006)

Well, it rained this year at the annual conference of the New England Psychological Association (NEPA), held from October 20-21, 2006, on the Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) campus. But the rain was nothing like the "monsoon" rains experienced at NEPA '05, and the electricity stayed on, unlike NEPA '04. What was the same was a terrific conference, including a major slate of Psi Chi sessions. As usual, our Psi Chi Workshop on "How to Get Into Graduate School," conducted by Dr. Susan K. Whitbourne (Psi Chi Eastern Region Vice-President; University of Massachusetts Amherst) and Dr. Tara Kuther (Western Connecticut State University), was packed. The Chapter Exchange led by Dr. Betsy Gunzelmann (faculty advisor of the SNHU Chapter) and SNHU chapter officers allowed members and officers from several chapters to compare notes and ideas on both successful and not-so-successful chapter activities. Our Distinguished Lecturer was Dr. Jane Halonen (dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at West Florida University) whose topic was "What Makes Departments Great?" Finally, adding a new twist to our NEPA activities, our closing reception coincided with an awards ceremony where several students received awards and Psi Chi student members presenting research at NEPA received a Psi Chi certificate of recognition.
