Psi Chi's Distinguished Speaker at the 2003 SEPA Convention will be David A. Washburn, PhD (Georgia State University). For more information about Dr. Washburn, go here:

Dr. Washburn's presentation is entitled, "Human Factors Applications of 'Monkey Factors' Research." Abstract: Comparative studies have revealed fundamental similarities between humans and nonhuman primates in the dimensions and determinants of attention, of learning, and of executive functions (e.g., planning, metacognition). Consequently, training and assessment tasks developed initially for research with Rhesus monkeys have proven to be useful in applied research with humans. These applications include studies of spaceflight effects, predictions of success by Air Force recruits, assessment and instruction of children with and without attention deficits, and investigations of airport security screener skills.
