Ludy T. Benjamin, Jr., PhD (Texas A & M University). Dr. Benjamin's presentation is entitled, "Who Owns Psychology? The (Exasperating) Popularity of Pop Psychology." For more information about Dr. Benjamin, go to
www.apa.org/ed/benjamin.html.
The address will be a historic look at the public's long-standing fascination with psychology, a love affair that predates the arrival of scientific psychology in this country and continues unabated today. It will explore the conflicts among popular psychology (the public's psychology), the modern profession of psychology, and the science of psychology. Finally, it will conclude with an analysis of how an understanding of popular psychology can inform the advancement of the science and practice of psychology.
The 2005 SEPA Conference will be held April 7-10, 2005, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel & Nashville Convention Center.
