Psi Chi Workshop
Diversity in Research Workshop
2:00–3:00 p.m., Carson 1-2
Chair: Jon Grahe, Western Regional Vice-President, Pacific Lutheran University (WA)
Panelists: Kristin Beals, California State University, Fullerton; Negin Ghavami, University of California, Los Angeles; Nickolas Jones, California State University, Fullerton; and Courtney Conlon, University of California, Los Angeles

As our society becomes more diverse and multi-cultural, it will be important for us, as scholars, researchers, and teachers, to challenge the normative assumptions around gender, sexual orientation, culture, ethnicity, body, etc. Each presenter will provide examples from their own experience on how their research has benefited from inclusive and normative challenging stands. In the workshop component, students will be challenged to think about their own research interests and to suspend the dominant paradigms that marginalize populations and circumvent assumptions that are rooted in those paradigms. We will encourage students to think about how gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, person-story, and religion intersect and influence how their research participants respond to various research procedures.
