One World Over the Rainbow?
The Grey, the Dull, and the Bright in Global LGBTQ Rights

Sharon Horne is an associate professor of counseling psychology and Director of Training for Counseling Psychology in the new Ph.D. in Counseling and School Psychology at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Prior to her appointment at UMB, she was an associate professor of Counseling Psychology at University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee for 12 years. As a licensed psychologist, she has maintained a small private practice, primarily working with GLBTQ clients. Dr. Horne has been researching GLBTQ issues for many years, focusing on the psychological impact of same-sex marriage amendments, same-sex parenting, and recently high risk sexual behaviors and the role of family social networks of Black and Latino gay and bisexual men. In addition, she has worked on international GLBTQ issues, primarily in postcommunist countries, including Russia, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan. She was elected to represent the American Psychological Association’s International Network on LGBT Issues, and recently attended the International Congress of Psychology in South Africa as a delegate. She also works as an Open Society Foundation academic fellow with American University of Central Asia in Kyrgyzstan where she works on GLBTQ and gender issues.
