Call for Nominations for National Officers

11/1/2006

The 2006-07 Call for Nominations for Psi Chi National Officers was mailed to Psi Chi chapters on or before November 1, 2006. Be sure your chapter obtains a copy of the form, so that it may submit its nominations for national officers. All active chapters may nominate a candidate for President-Elect from the list of candidates who qualify for this position by having served at least two full years (within the last 10 years) as a regional vice-president. The list of eligible candidates is sent with the call.

In addition to President-Elect, chapters in three regions (East, Rocky Mountain, and West—see regional map) may nominate an actively involved Psi Chi faculty advisor for the vice-president position in their region. To be eligible for nomination as a candidate for regional vice-president, the candidate should meet the following requirements:

  1. The candidate must be a member of Psi Chi and should be an actively involved Psi Chi faculty advisor who has contributed to the Psi Chi chapter on a local and regional basis for several years.

  2. The candidate must be willing and able to carry out the duties of the office, including planning and conducting the Psi Chi program at the candidate's respective regional annual convention.

  3. The candidate must be affiliated with a chapter located in one of the candidate's respective region's states (see map).

Excerpts from the Psi Chi Constitution are provided here concerning the offices of President-Elect and Regional Vice-Presidents.

PRESIDENT-ELECT:
To be eligible for nomination as President-Elect, the candidate shall have been a member of the National Council for a minimum of two years within the past ten years at the time of nomination. No member who has served as President, President-Elect, or Past-President shall be eligible to another term in the same office. (Article IV, Section 4)

The President-Elect shall be elected annually to serve a one-year term as President-Elect followed by a one-year term as President and a one-year term as Past-President. The term of office shall begin at the close of the annual National Council business meeting at the national convention. (Article IV, Section 3)

The President-Elect shall preside in the absence of the President and fill any vacancy in the office of President, and shall have such other duties as may be determined by the President or the National Council. (Article V, Section 3)

REGIONAL VICE-PRESIDENTS:
The Vice-Presidents shall serve as the principal administrative officers of their respective regions. They shall make arrangements for and preside at the annual meetings in their regions, and have such other duties as may be determined by the President or the National Council. (Article V, Section 5)

The Vice-President of the region shall be the principal administrative officer of that region. The Vice-President shall arrange for and preside at the annual regional convention, and may appoint regional officers, state coordinators, a regional program committee for the regional convention, and such other committees as are deemed necessary to carry on the activities of the region. (Article IX, Section 2)

Duties of the regional vice-presidents include:

  • Regional vice-presidents serve as the principal administrative officers in the region in which they are elected.

  • The vice-presidents arrange for and conduct annually the Psi Chi programs to be presented at their respective regional psychological association conventions.

  • The vice-presidents are members of the Psi Chi National Council and thus have responsibilities with the National Council.

  • The vice-presidents are reimbursed by Psi Chi for expenses necessary to conduct the Psi Chi programs at their respective regional conventions and for travel expenses to attend the annual Psi Chi National Council meeting and national convention.

Further constitutional information concerning the offices of Psi Chi's National President-Elect and the regional vice-presidents may be read in the Psi Chi Constitution (see Articles IV, V, VII, and IX especially).
