CHAPTER NOTEBOOKThis year, 2007-08, the National Office will be sending Chapters one copy of the new Psi Chi Brochure and Poster to each Chapter. In an effort to be more environmentally friendly, the National Office will not send each Chapter all of the forms for the notebook. All forms are available on the Psi Chi website. If a Chapter needs a copy of the forms, the National Office will mail a copy of the forms on CD.
The most recent versions of all Psi Chi forms are always available on the Psi Chi website:
www.psichi.org/downloads/ Online Call for Nominations for Psi ChiFor the first time, the call for nominations will be done electronically through the Psi Chi website. On November 1, Psi Chi will email all chapters a Call for Nominations for Psi Chi National Officers. A link
to the nomination form will be provided and handled through your chapter's administrator login. Nominations will be accepted for President-Elect and Vice-President for three regions (Midwestern, Southeastern, and Southwestern).
All chapters may submit a nominee for President-Elect from the list of candidates who qualify for this position by having served at least two years within the last 10 years as a regional vice-president. The list of
eligible candidates will be sent with the call for nominations. Each chapter may nominate one candidate from this list for the President-Elect position. Each nomination must be accompanied by two statements from the candidate. Nominations must be submitted by December 15, in order to be counted as valid.
In addition to President-Elect, chapters in three regions (Midwestern, Southeastern, and Southwestern) may nominate an actively involved Psi Chi faculty advisor for the vice-president position in their region. Please include the email address of the candidate and a description of why you chose the individual to represent your region. After completing the form online, an email will be sent to your candidates acknowledging
their acceptance of the nomination and requesting position and biographical statements. Nominees will then submit this information by December 15. On or before February 1, election ballot information regarding the candidates for Psi Chi's National Council and how to vote online will be sent to all Psi Chi chapters.
Deadlines and Procedures
November 1: Psi Chi National Office sends email to chapters with link to online nomination site and list of eligible candidates and their email addresses.
December 1: Chapter selects a candidate for nomination and submits nomination form electronically to that person.
December 15: Candidate returns acceptance electronically with the biographical statement and position statement.
The Nomination/Election Committee considers the qualifications of all candidates for office and proposes at least one nominee for each office to be filled.
IRS FilingsThe Psi Chi National Office has with our accountant at Rubino & McGeehin. Our accountant provided the following information to the National Office: The new filing requirement applies to organizations that normally receive less than $25k in annual receipts and are therefore not required to file a 990 or a 990EZ. The new annual electronic filing requirement for these organizations is the 990N (also referred to as the e-Postcard).
The exceptions to filing include organizations included in a group return. All chapters are included on the list that is attached to Psi Chi’s 990 so all chapters are exempted from filing the new 990E form.
The National Conference on Undergraduate Education in PsychologyThe National Conference on Undergraduate Education in Psychology will be held June 22 – 27, 2008 at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. The goal of the conference is to examine critical issues and concerns in undergraduate education and the important changes that have occurred since the
last conference on undergraduate education in June 1991. All applications must be received by November 15, 2007. The conference is sponsored by the American Psychological Association’s Board of Educational Affairs. Psi Chi is proud to be a co-sponsor of the conference. The Psi Chi National Council encourages
Psi Chi faculty advisors to apply for the conference. Get more information about the conference here:
