SOCIETY ELECTION RESULTS

Psi Chi welcomes our newest members of the Psi Chi Board of Directors, Susan Amato-Henderson, PhD, serving as President-Elect, and Daniel Corts, PhD, serving as Midwestern Regional Vice-President. The Central Office would also like to congratulate Maria J. Lavooy, PhD, Southeastern Regional Vice-President and Randall E. Osborne, PhD, Southwestern Regional Vice-President; both were re-elected to their positions for another term on the Board of Directors.

ELIZABETH HURLOCK BECKMAN AWARD

In memory of a best-selling author, esteemed college professor and champion and advocate for the advancement of women, nominations for the first Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Awards are being accepted through May 1, 2010.

The awards, named after Dr. Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman (1898-1988), will recognize current or former higher education faculty members who have inspired his or her students to make a difference in their communities. Award recipients will receive a minimum of $25,000 as a one-time award to be used at their sole discretion. The awards will be counted as taxable income.

Individuals nominated for the award must be current or former teachers, professors or instructors in any higher education academic field. Preference will be given to educators in the fields of psychology, medicine and law. To be considered, the educator must currently teach or have taught at a United States college, university, junior college, community college or technical school. Award candidates must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent resident aliens.

EXPLORITAS K. PATRICIA CROSS DOCTORAL RESEARCH GRANT

Elderhostel invites applications from doctoral candidates researching lifelong or later-life learning for the Elderhostel K. Patricia Cross Doctoral Research Grant. This $5,000 grant is awarded annually to a student in various disciplines including, but not limited to, psychology, education, gerontology, cognitive studies, neuroscience, leisure studies, aging and social work. Because the selection committee requires an abstract and description of your current research, you must already be engaged in your dissertation research. International graduate students are welcome to apply.

The application deadline is Friday, April 30, 2010. Please be sure to have all application material submitted by midnight EDT, including your CV/resume, 2-3 page abstract and at least one of your recommendations.
