Get to Know Your Rocky Mountain Regional VP

What are your hobbies?
I am certified to teach yoga and meditation so I practice as often as I can and share my love of yoga through teaching. I also love reading and traveling.

What is the best trip you’ve ever taken?
Studying abroad and living in London for 3 months as an undergraduate. I lived and traveled with my best friend, also a psychology major. Living outside the US brings a unique perspective of the world AND an appreciation of home.

What is your favorite food?
As a native Texan, I can’t go home to visit without getting: Texas BBQ, kolaches and breakfast tacos, chicken fried steak, and some good Tex-Mex enchiladas. Having married a Spaniard, I have also fallen in love with jamon serrano.

What sort of student were you?
I was a “good” student who could have been much better! In fact, as an undergrad, I did not qualify for Psi Chi. Like many students, I had to learn how to balance school, work, and play. I was fortunate to have patient, supportive, and challenging professors who mentored me and ultimately inspired me to follow in their footsteps.

Who is favorite psychologist?
Albert Bandura. As an educational psychologist, I love Social Learning Theory! And, I got to sit next to him at lunch one time.

What are three words that best describe you?
Outgoing. Curious. Enthusiastic.

What is your favorite class to teach?
I love Research Methods but haven’t taught it a few semesters. It is so incredible to see the transformation that can happen in that class when students fall in love with doing research. My guilty pleasure class is Yoga and Positive Psychology—also a favorite!

What is the last book you read?
Right now I am reading Angela Saini’s That’s Rewriting the Story. I recently finished Krakauer’s Missoula and Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. I have also been on a Philippa Gregory kick and recently read several of her Tudor-era historical fiction novels.

What is your favorite band?
I never know how to answer this question because I have pretty eclectic tastes. As a Gen Xer, I listen to a lot of Lithium on XMSirius and spent a lot of time in my younger years going to concerts. I still love seeing live music when I can. Bands/musicians I have liked enough to see live: Dave Matthews, David Bowie, Phish, Indigo Girls, Gipsy Kings, the Pixies, Beastie Boys, Mumford and Sons, Lyle Lovett, Tool, Paul Simon, and—with my son—Weird Al.
