MPA Travel Grant Information

NOTE: Funds are awarded to chapters based on information provided by students at the time of abstract/summary submission in the response to the questions that comprise Attachment 1 for submissions to the Psi Chi portion of MPA. No separate applications are necessary. Chapters are notified by March 1.

All Psi Chi chapters with a student member presenting at the Midwestern Psychological Association (MPA) are eligible for the Regional Research Development Awards (in the form of travel grants).

In order to be eligible chapters must:

· have at least one undergraduate student who is a Psi Chi member with a poster accepted for presentation at the Psi Chi portion of MPA who is able to attend the awards ceremony.  A faculty advisor may attend in place of a student; however, the chapter must have at least one student presenting.

· Be physically located more than 250 miles from Chicago, IL.

· Be from a chapter located within the Midwestern region of Psi Chi (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, OR Wisconsin).

·Have active chapter standing with Psi Chi.

Priority will be given to chapters:

·that have not sent students to MPA in recent years (~3-5 years).

· that have not received a development grant in the past 3-5 years (for the future).

Chapters with a student receiving a research award at the meeting will not be eligible for a development grant.  In addition, only one development grant will be awarded per chapter; however, the amount may reflect the number of students attending.   The money will be awarded to the chapter and it is expected that it will be used to help support all Psi Chi students attending the conference.

Procedure:  When submitting proposals students indicate on their cover sheets the distance of their institutions from Chicago, the last time a student from their chapter presented at MPA, and the number of students who attended from the school the last time students attended. Cash awards of $200-$300 per chapter up to a total allotment of $1600 will be determined by the Midwestern steering committee based on the information submitted.  The MW VP will determine eligibility for the criteria and potentially contact chapter advisors to confirm details. Chapters will be notified prior to March 1.

Please see the MPA submission site for more information.
