Midwestern Regional Fall Letter (2011)
Dear Fellow Psi Chi Members, Chapter Officers, and Faculty Advisors,
First, I would like to welcome our newly inducted members of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. We’re glad you have joined us! It will be another exciting year for Psi Chi, and here is some news I would like to share with you:
- Awards and Grants! One of my favorite aspects of Psi Chi is the way our organization recognizes and supports the research that you do. Please visit www.psichi.org/awards for a detailed list of awards, grants, and deadlines.
- MPA convention. Psi Chi members in the Midwest should be proud to have the largest undergraduate research program of all the regional meetings. We’ve had record numbers of applications for the last 5 years and continue to grow!
- DATE: May 3–5, 2012; Palmer House in Chicago, IL.
- SPEAKER: Our Psi Chi invited speaker this year is Dr. James Pennebaker (University of Texas) who will present a talk entitled “How Our Words Reveal Who We Are.”
- STUDENTS: Did you know that in addition to presentations, Psi Chi sponsors several hours of programming for undergraduates? Topics include leadership, careers, and graduate school admissions.
- ADVISORS: We appreciate all that you do! Psi Chi will host a breakfast for the advisors on Friday morning to say thank you! We will keep you posted on time and location for the event.
- RECEPTION: We will have a reception (with free food) for all Psi Chi members.
- PROGRAM: Check the MPA program (available at http://www.midwesternpsych.org in late January) for specifics.
- Service and other activities. Don’t forget to think about service projects this year! Psi Chi students have skills that can contribute to their schools and communities. The Society Service Projects are posted online at http://www.psichi.org/chapters/serviceprojects.aspx if your chapter needs ideas for getting started. Be sure to give back with a service project and share your ideas with other chapters through Eye on Psi Chi.
Please get in touch with me if I can be of any help to your chapter. I will look forward to seeing many of you at MPA in the spring.
