Midwestern Regional Fall Letter (2008)

Dear Fellow Psi Chi Members, Chapter Officers, and Faculty Advisors,

Greetings and welcome back to another exciting year for Psi Chi. Congratulations to our newly inducted members of Psi Chi and to the new chapters in the Midwestern region.  I’m happy to be serving as your regional VP for another year.

I invite you to visit a few websites as you think about this coming year.

    • MIDWEST REGION WEBSITE. I have developed a website that includes links to award winning Psi Chi chapter websites as well as an ‘Ideas that Work” site that has a lot of good ideas for chapters.
    • NATIONAL WEBITE.  The national website is a wealth of information and is really “one stop browsing” for most of your questions regarding Psi Chi.  The website is getting a new interface soon that will be even more user friendly.
    • SERVICE PROJECTS. I would also like to encourage you to become involved in one of Psi Chi's five national service projects during the upcoming school year. Possible projects include local shelter involvement, raising funds for the Archives of the History of American Psychology, food drives, Habitat for Humanity, and UNICEF. More details on these can be found here.
    • FREE MONEY!  Don’t forget that Psi Chi is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving students.  The number of grants continues to grow and some are as widely utilized as we would like. Please visit the Psi Chi Awards page for a detailed list of awards, grants, and deadlines.
    • MPA. The Midwest is “famous” for having the largest undergraduate and graduate student research component associated with Psi Chi at a regional meeting – we had over 330 submissions last year.  In addition, we had 21 research award winners whose short abstracts can be read starting at page 40 in the following Psi Chi 2008 program.
    • The deadline for MPA 2009 undergraduate and/or Psi Chi submissions is MONDAY, NOVEMBER 3rd at 5 pm CST.  Remember that Psi Chi submission need to be submitted to a different address than the MPA address – although we use the same format.  Send all submissions to mwpsichi@uwlax.edu. All the info is here and we have a “tips” link that is helpful.  In addition, MPA has revamped their webpage and it is greatly improved.
    • ADVISORS. Psi Chi will host a continental breakfast for the advisors on Friday morning – we will keep you posted.
    • We will have a reception for all Psi Chi students and all Psi Chi students will present as posters.

Hope this is helpful information to you and best wishes for a successful term.
