Eastern Regional Spring Letter

Dear Eastern Psi Chi chapters,

It’s been a cold winter here in the Eastern region, but if the groundhog is right, spring will be here soon! Cast off the winter blues, and get involved in Psi Chi activities!

Plan to Attend EPA 2016

  • The annual EPA convention is March 3 to 5 in New York City at the Marriott Marquis (Times Square). We have Psi Chi programming you won’t want to miss including sessions on graduate school, “EPA 101” for first-time convention attendees, and “Writing a Results Oriented and Relevant Resumé for Psychology Students” presented by Drs. Ron Shapiro and Paul Hettich.
  • The convention kicks off, as usual, Thursday night with the Psi Chi Distinguished Lecture. This year, Dr. Matthew Nock (Harvard University, MA) will speak about his research on “Recent Advances in the Understanding and Prediction of Suicidal Behavior.” You may have seen the article about him in the most recent issue of Eye on Psi Chi.
  • Other Psi Chi Workshops at the convention include a Chapter Leadership Exchange, “Getting Psyched About Psi Chi: Ideas for Invigorating Your Chapter,” presented by the Towson University (MD) Chapter and “Vision 2020: Psi Chi's Strategic Plan and What It Means for You” where members of Psi Chi’s Board of Directors will present new initiatives and goals for our Honor Society as we prepare for the Organization’s 90th anniversary. Especially for faculty, there will be a session “Everything You Wanted to Know About Being a Psi Chi Advisor,” to answer questions and provide suggestions for chapters from current Psi Chi advisors. There are two undergraduate research poster sessions, as well as the Psi Chi poster session.
  • To conclude the convention, winners of the Eastern Regional Research Awards and Travel Grants will be publicly recognized at our Awards Ceremony and Reception on Saturday at 3:30. Dr. Ron Shapiro will be conducting psychology games after the formal ceremony, and we will have Psi Chi prizes to give away!
  • Don’t forget to stop by the Psi Chi booth to meet me and other Board of Directors members! For those of you presenting posters, stop by to pick up your Psi Chi label for your poster. Go to for a complete program listing.
