New Research on Women's
Low Participation Rates in
Science and Technology Fields

Women continue to be underrepresented in the physical sciences, engineering, and computing. Speaker considers what dissuades women from pursuing STEM, women's experiences within STEM, and what can be done to support women interested in STEM fields.

Jane G. Stout, PhD
Director, Center for Evaluating the Research Pipeline

Back to Psi Chi's APA Program.

Jane Stout, PhD, is the Director of the Center for Evaluating the Research Pipeline (CERP) at the Computing Research Association in Washington D.C. At CERP, Dr. Stout and her team conduct national survey research aimed at understanding students’ experiences in computer science degree programs, with special focus on the experiences of women, people of color, and other groups who are underrepresented in computer science. Dr. Stout's publications address why physical science, technology, and engineering (STE) fields lack diversity, and strategies to promote diversity in those fields. Dr. Stout's current work on diversity in STE is funded by the National Science Foundation.
