Ashleigh Maxcey
Manchester University
2012–13 winner

"At Manchester University, the undergraduate students majoring in psychology are fortunate to be enrolled in a curriculum that is geared toward student-led research. Our students have a rich history of conducting experiments, presenting at undergraduate conferences and gaining admittance into graduate school. However, as with many programs, our subject pool is primarily limited to undergraduate students participating in research exposure for course credit. The Psi Chi Faculty Advisor Research Grant has enabled me to implement a project that will bring in young children from our local elementary school to participate in experiments. This will allow our top students, many of whom are Psi Chi members, to learn the many aspects of running this special population of subjects—securing IRB approval, establishing and maintaining a relationship with the elementary school, recruiting and hosting the children and their parents on campus, analyzing a unique set of data, and presenting to a new audience at conferences. This project and wide range of new experiences would not have been possible without this generous grant from Psi Chi.”
